Houchins Wedding Photographer

Wedding details on a brick wall.

Real wedding at Houchins, Colchester

Well, what can I say… this was a brilliant wedding to be a part of! Laura and Callum were both so laid-back about the whole event it was sure to be a relaxed, enjoyable wedding. They were also very friendly, welcoming and trusting of us - inviting us into the gang and having faith we will deliver beautiful photographic results. There are so many more pictures I would love to share but here are just a few from this amazing day.

This couple chose to have two photographers document the full day so Jason met the guys at the couple’s house while I headed straight to Houchins where the girls were getting ready. Luckily the groom’s mother was also on hand to help make him look presentable, keep the boys in check and get them to the wedding on time! Meanwhile, all was cool and calm in the bridal suite with everything going to plan; the kids were amazing, the bridesmaids were filling confetti cones and the bride was just so happy.

Side note: a woman after my own heart, Laura decided against uncomfortable high-heels and opted for bright blue dolly shoes!

Wedding ceremony at Houchins

Houchins has a large marquee set up for outdoor weddings that is perfect for light, bright photographs. Laura and Callum chose to have an unplugged ceremony which means politely asking the guests to not take pictures or have their phones out during this part of the day, but rather be present in the moment as they say their vows.

One of the best things that makes or breaks a wedding for us is the smiles, and just look - they couldn’t smile any bigger during the signing of the register and as they walked out as the new Mr and Mrs if they tried!

Wedding photography at Houchins

After the confetti shot, which can I say, was ‘en pointe’, Laura climbed onto the roof of the building to throw her bouquet down to the guests and it was so cute - the page boy caught it!

Houchins is set in the countryside surrounded by trees and fields so there are lots of opportunities for beautiful portraits in and around the grounds. We stayed close by for the afternoon portraits, but after the wedding breakfast we ventured further into the nearby fields for some sunset shots too.

Another thing to point out is the unique wedding cake… made with macarons. A spectacular, colourful sight.

A message from the bride…

“Eleth and Jason really helped make our wedding day special. They were great to work with and it was lovely to meet people who were passionate and cared about their work. Not only that but the photos themselves are better than we could have wished for. Thanks to them we have wonderful photos which allow us to relive our perfect day over and over again. The photos got back to us before we even finished our honeymoon which was an added bonus. And the ability to purchase a USB (which arrived promptly) is brilliant as we are now able to make our own Photobook (something which me and my partner enjoy doing together). On the day, they arrived on time and mixed well with the guests. It was like having another couple of friends at our wedding as opposed to photographers. Looking back at the photos it's surprising how I didn't remember many of them being taken which is a testament to their ability. If you are looking for a photographer for your wedding then stop looking because you've found the best!” Laura Thorpe.
