How to be a good bridesmaid
So you've been asked to be bridesmaid for your dearest friend? You want to be the best bridesmaid you can be for her, but how!? We're glad you asked.
The best weddings we've experienced are where the bridesmaids go above and beyond their duties. It is an honour to be asked to be a bridesmaid, you're essentially a VIP of the event, but there are things you can do to help the bride and make sure the day is the best it can be.
It's all about the bride
First and foremost, the day is about the bride so be prepared to step back from the limelight yourself and let her shine. Is your left side your best side for photos, but it's also the brides best side? Sorry, you need to turn the other way. Do anything you can to make her look her best and feel like a princess - just for today.
Preparing for the big day
You may be asked (or you could even volunteer for more brownie points) to help with any DIY task the bride might be working on for the wedding. This could be centerpieces, place names or the seating plan. On the day itself you may also need to help set things up and make sure everything is where it needs to be, such as confetti or reserved signs on seats. Something that is really helpful for the photographer is if you can gather all the details such as shoes, flowers, jewelry, perfume for photos in the morning.
Assist the bride
This is an obvious one, but what does it entail? Always be close by for if the bride needs anything. Something we have experienced a lot is, during the group photos the bridesmaids often wander off to have a drink and a chat while the bride is calling for them to help with something - it could be help with the dress, finding a guests or any number of things. Always be close by. She might need assistance going to the toilet, bustling up her dress in the evening, applying more lipstick…
Be her cheerleader
The lead up to a wedding can be busy and stressful for a bride. The day of the wedding can be nerve-wracking. She doesn’t need any more worry or negativity around her. Instead, be her cheerleader. Tell her everything is going to be ok, tell her she looks amazing, be the best friend you can be. Smile!
Be a good host
One part of the role of bridesmaid that many forget is to be a good host to all the guests. The bride will be busy floating around on a cloud of bliss, and have lots of people to talk to, so to be a good bridesmaids, you step in as host. Make sure everyone knows where they need to be and when, ensure they have a drink in their hand and if someone is on their own or doesn’t know many other people at the wedding, go and say hello.
