How to cope in front of the camera if you're an introvert bride

There are two types of people: those that love having their photo taken and are always sharing selfies and those that would rather run a mile than be in front of the camera! Funnily enough, as a teenager I was a real ‘poser’ and loved photos, but now I like to stay behind the camera! On your wedding day, there generally isn't anywhere to run though. So if you are a bride that wants beautiful photos to remember her special day by but is feeling incredibly anxious about the process, here are some tips to get you through.

Focus on your partner

This is best thing you can do and luckily, they will be by your side all day. During your portraits we try not to make you look at the camera too much anyway, so when you can, look into their eyes - really focus on them. Even if you are smiling for the camera or standing in front of all your guests being announced as the new Mr and Mrs, hold hands and concentrate on being in the moment with them. You are so lucky that in this nerve-racking situation, you have someone beside you who will support you. Perhaps even speak with them before the big day to let them know your worries and anxieties so they can be aware and support you.

Get to know your photographer

When you feel comfortable with your photographer and can have a laugh with them and trust they will capture the best version of yourself, you will automatically relax. This in turn will help you look more natural and less tense in the photos. We always encourage having an engagement photography session with your photographer before your wedding day for this reason; when it comes to the portraits at your wedding you will already be familiar with how to pose and hopefully feel at ease with your photographer. Think of us as your friend - another member of your bridal party who is there to support you, celebrate with you and have a great day with you - rather than the person with the scary camera!

Look good to feel good

I don’t know about you but when I look good, I feel way more confident. I would highly recommend getting your hair and make-up both professionally done for your wedding to help you feel great. This way, you are much more likely to walk out the door with your head held high, ready to face the long day ahead. Having a practice run beforehand means you can be sure you will look exactly as you wish and be confident in your appearance at your wedding.

Just have fun - enjoy yourself

This day is only going to happen once so we want you to enjoy it and remember it as a special, joyful occasion. For the most part, try and forget there is a camera lurking around and just have fun. Even during the formal photos when you have to smile at the camera, keep reminding yourself to relax, have fun and relish in the moment. You are getting married! Soon, the camera won't seem so scary!
